I got to see this car in person and watch it run in Atlanta this summer. It actually lapped the field. I talked to driver later that night and he said he backed off on it after the first lap. I thought he was running it pretty hard. He said he still had plenty of pedal left. Got to met Kas as well. That was a good trip.

That is gorgeous. One of those cars that looks fast standing still.

I was racing my Spitfire at that event, in the All Triumph race. The car was incredibly fast. Someone put out a DVD about the car and Kastner, it's called California Air. All about the evolution of Triumph racing in the US from the 60's and the building of the TR250K. It also has footage from the 2012 Kastner Cup race featuring the car.

Nice job, as usual, on this Curtis

It really look like a concept car, which rarely perform well. Great to hear it performs as well as it looks.

Thanks for posting this - I was at the Mitty and loved looking at that car - but this pictorial really gets into the details that are great. It also clears up a little confusion I had, at one time I heard the car was running with a shorter stroke GT6 engine, but this does not appear to be the case.

Jedi Trainee
I knew it was light, but 1550lbs is REALLY light - that's Spitfire weight. It also explains a few things (TR4s and 6s are 400+lbs heavier per vintage rules).

Fast car. I still don't think we've seen Tony Garmey give it his all in this car, yet. He pedaled it at Watkins Glen after Kreger blew up and he pedaled it at Road Atlanta. The TR4 was running right behind it at Watkins Glen in '08 until the motor let go. I have in-car of it running down Halkias' and Tom Kreger's TR6 in a straight line down the back straight at Watkins Glen. There is something to be said for aerodynamics and power-to-weight there.

I got to see this car in person and watch it run in Atlanta this summer. It actually lapped the field. I talked to driver later that night and he said he backed off on it after the first lap. I thought he was running it pretty hard.

Too be fair, one the fastest vintage Spitfires broke early in the weekend and one of the fastest TR4s in the country had problems en-route to the track. Both would have turned fast laps equal to the 250Ks fast times based on previous performances. Not saying they would have beaten it, but they would have pushed the 250K to show a bigger hand. Tony's a very good driver, but that car is technically superior to production Triumphs by a lot under vintage rules.

A very well prepared car and a great driver make it hard to beat. Great article - thanks, Curtis!

Hi All,
Thank you for all the Kind words/comments about the "K" car. I restored the car in 1996/7. I could go on all day about the details of this car, so if there is a specific question...just ask and I'll do the best I can to answer. There Have been a couple ...ahem..myths floating around about the specs of the car...It is a 2 litre motor. Not sure how it came to be in the car.. It's the way it was when I got the car. The dyno sheet I have is from 1998. 165 hp. I don,t recall the torque . the weight is 2200 pounds.

Glad to see you on this site. I met you a the Mitty party, don't even expect you to remember meeting me. We have a good time here swapping info and learning about our car. I'm sure you can add to that.

Jedi Knight
Great looking TR for sure. It will have to be fast to stay up with the one I saw running at the Mitty. And that TR was still running very well at the close of the event.

Thanks very much for posting, hope you chime in more when you can. I know you've received high praise from many others for bringing back TR250K to its current glory, including Kas Kastner himself, but I just want to say as an addicted admirer of all things Triumph thank you very much for your stewardship of that car and thanks to the Hart family for keeping it in the public eye.

Thanks also for clarifying that you are running a 2 litre engine there. Not sure if it was my imagination, but it sure sounded different than the other cars when you went around Road Atlanta. That engine sounded sweet!

I'm surprised you run it with a vintage formula steering wheel, looks like one from a GT6 possibly. I have the wood rimmed version in my TR4, it is a nice wheel but not as rugged as others - but that may also attest to how well that car handles.

Thanks Randy
the steering wheel came with the car and I had no idea it ran with any other..till Curtis found a picture of something different.
