Time for new rubber

As my BJ7 nears completion I've decided to replace the existing tires with new rather than take a chance in having a blowout! After years of waiting it could well send me over the edge.

That said can I get some input on what sizing and or make to use. I would like to keep it as close to the original look as possible. Rim size is 15 x 5.

Very good idea. I won't start the rubber age vs brittleness thing again.

Hendrix Wire Wheel has some "Widetrack" 165R15 tires that are a little taller than normal. Around a .82 aspect ratio I believe. The tread is quite sticky & they hold on pretty well. Actually, better than my previous 175R15 ZX Michelins which are no longer available. The WT's are around $80 per, I believe. Only a suggestion. There are as many opinions about what tire to use as there are cars on the road.

Thanks Dave

When importing into Canada we get stuck with duty and G.S.T.
In this case if they were manufactured in th U.S.A. I might be able to get around the duty?

Have always been a Michelin man...prefer 165sr15 XZX..Coker tire has them .. Have new Vredesteins 165SR15 on my 100 Le Mans from previos owner..look like truck tires, not pretty side walls..will be giving them away when my new ones are mounted

Healey Jag, I'll takeum when you're ready /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thats it Johnny!, get em while the gettin is good they are one great tire although I run a larger size.---Keoke

Well as luck would have it I compromised between the 165/15 and the 185/15 with the 175's only to find that the two brands I liked the most don't make them anymore! Soooooooooooooooooo if I can't find the 175/15's in Michelin or Vredistein I'm back to 165's or 185's. Soooooooooooooooooo is their really that much handling/clearance differences between them?

Your thoughts will be appreciated!

Yep, it sems that tires for the old cars at reasonable prices are being phased out. However, if you choose the 185 size tire be sure you specify the 185 X 70 X 15 tire as the 185/15 is a much larger tire built primarily for the Jaguars.--Fwiw--Keoke

I'll take that advice! Maybe a guy should order 2 sets before they phase these out as well! I'm going your route with the Vredesteins. I think they only make them in the 185/70/HR15's now? Yours are the Sprint Classic correct?
