Y'know it's funny-I didn't know this was real until I saw this spot on Letterman. Throat singing had been referenced on the television show "Fraiser", as something the two brothers were going to go watch and were tremendously excited about. By the description, I had figured it was made up to sound overly pretentious, the sort of things those two snobby doofuses would have seen to appear "well rounded".

Imagine my surprise when I saw that!

I've never heard throat singing in person, but I know that it is traditional amongst the Inuit people of northern Canada (ie. very far north!)

I have however heard radio recordings, and it's certainly interesting...
