The Most Incredible Car Day!

Today a friend and I set out on a drive through the local canyons. Other than being a tad windy, the weather was gorgeous! We drove about 80 miles on the most twisty, curvy roller-coaster roads you could find anywhere. It was literally a workout just to keep the cars moving at a reasonable speed through these narrow windy canyons.

On the way back, we stopped at an overlook in the mountains just as a HUGE car run was beginning to come by. Cars of every type and age drove past, many stopping at the same overlook. The action didn't stop for over an hour! There were hundreds of them!

Some of the highlights:
Not one, but TWO Ariel Atoms!!!
Two Vectors.
Two old Bugattis, one a sports car and the other a convertible early 30's tourer.
A brand new Spyker roadster.
A 1960's AC Bristol Coupe.
A Mercedes that looked like a Smart car.
A Nissan Figaro!!!!
A Morgan Aero 8.
A Morgan 4-seater
A few antiques I couldn't identify.

I snapped photos of a small portion of the cars, mostly the classics. Noteworthy cars not pictured are the second Ariel Atom, the second Bugatti, a group of 15 or so classic Minis, lots of other oldies and dozens of modern exotics.

Wow... most people will never see 1 vector in their lifetime... much less 2. Not to mention some of them other cool cars. My sister works at the Mercedes M-class assembly plant, and word has it that the Smart will be introduced to the US either this year or next.

I still can't believe I actually saw an Atom. And then ten minutes later another one blew by! And the Figaro is probably the only one on the continent.

That is a pretty amazing collection of car to just run into!

Man... I do live in the wrong place! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif I just came back from a New Years Day photostroll in a local park, don't think I got any real winners out of the 130 photos, but then every city has parks to explore...

In case you're wondering...

That brownish sedan is a Lancia Flaminia, I think...

And that is a Smart Car roadster, which they do make for European sale

Red roadster is a Lancia Aurelia roadster

That red coupe looks like something coachbuilt Italian, maybe Fiat-based

Nice early Volvo Wagon! Those are desireable

I think that silver roadster is the unsuccessful Shelby Series 2

So, when I go to the link, in which folder should I look?

Steve - I know a guy in Orange that has two or three of them. He also has a smart car roadster.

Really? How did he register the Figaro? The guy I talked to today said his was brought over by a Japanese woman, and when she returned to Japan she sold the car to him. He suspected she had an "in" at the DMV to get it registered, and says it must be smog tested every year.

Figaro - you mean this car?

Yes. You didn't see it in the gallery? It's on page 2.

One billion points to whoever can identify the car in photo 329. I had a little point and shoot and it wouldn't save the previous photo fast enough to get that one. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I clicked on that "Utata" link & saw mayb e a dozen photos - none of that car

where'd you find 329 photos?

That's Sherlock's link. The photos I took are linked in the first post of the thread. That's where the Nissan Figaro is. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Duh!

& the only way I could get the icon thingee to work was 'properties' & the [] thingee! Someday I'll figure them out!

Kurtis Kraft 500S....Allard.....hmmmm

But the wheels look like an old 32 Ford!

I know 345 is a 1969 Alfa GTV, 1750cc!!

"Kaiser" hit me, then saw 3 pipes from under hood... NO clue. Could it be a homebrew with a V6?

That was no casual: "Hey, let's get together and roll thru th' canyon!" kinda event! Very amazing. Thanks for sharing, Steve!

My first thought when I saw it coming was Allard. I'm guessing it's a special of some sort but I've never seen it at any of the Allard / 32 Ford Special meetings. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

Front end looks Kurtis or Allard - but that rear end is unique...&, there's an extra pipe runnung behind the exhaust & over the rear wheel.

Theres a guy here in Quebec that sells those Figaro things....maybe they're legal in Canada?

I'll add my own wow to the list. What a parade to see (and I'm sure hear) pass by. Thanks for the pictures, gives us snow bound folks some hope. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
