Texas car in Michigan for parts

I recently bought a 1979 MGB parts car that was brought up from Texas. I plan to remove the OD, PECO Exhaust and Webber carb and install on my B. What should I do with the rest.

The body is real solid and except for a bad paint job would make a good starter project. The front bumper mounts have been cut off and the rear unbolted. Floors, sills and doglegs all look very solid. Interior is gone. Engine looks original with a spare block and 2 non OD transmissions. Interior and seats are missing, some guages, good top frame and cracked windshield.

I live outside Detroit and would like to find a nice home for this car. I will post some pictures as soon as the wife cools down on the purchase. Currently I am chained to a paint brush and roller and can't touch it till all the honey-dos are done. Price will be quite reasonable.

What are the pros and cons of a Webber downdraft vs the dual SU set up. Not sure if I should sell or install the webber carb.

IMO unless it's a side-draft DCOE Weber you'll be well served to keep the SU's. They're near enough bullet proof.

Most of the Weber downdraft issues are inherent in the design of the intake manifold. Haven't found one yet to be trouble free.

I have been running a Weber downdraft on my 71 MGB since 1982. No major problems with it. Tune it properly following Weber's advice and do a rebuild when needed, and it will serve you well. But I have to agree with DrEntropy. Keep the SU's if you have them. I wish I had mine back. Sold them after I installed the Weber.

It can be very time/labour consuming to part a car out properly.

Take what you need for you utilization, then sell the car complete as is.

Looks like the neighbor kid wants it. His dad has a Jag so they know what they are getting into. I gave him a bunch of books tonight and left the garage open so they could come over and look at the car. The car is worth $200 as scrap metal so I think that is a fair price. Ebay is loaded with parts and it does not look like much is moving. Plans to paint it up in an Austin Powers style. I get my overdrive and he gets a first car.

I will keep you all posted.. Initial thoughts are to find a rusted beyond repair MGB for a doner car.

I would build a Car B Que out of it,
being that it is a 1979, here in California
the pro activist state (state of insanity)
It would have to be Smogged every 2 years.

I have one designed out of a later "B" (a 76),
and I even have a 77 that I am going to build a
2 wheel trailer out of by back halfing it.
So with all that is missing, I could sell them
all the parts that they want, if they want.
I could even supply them with a complete parts car
if they wanted.
