Stripe Removal

My 1979 Mgb has a moss motors type stripe kit installed (the one that says MGB in it.) It looks to have been on the car for a long while. I want to remove it, but I am afraid that it will be discolored underneath either from no sun or the glue they use on it. This is a big concern because the car is white. Anybody else delt with this type of problem. Any tips other than just leave it on?

Thanks
Robert

There were several different styles and I thought all or several of them said MGB. Mine is a '72 and has the stripe above the chrome strip and says MGB over the rear wheel.
I took mine off when I repainted and the paint under the stripe was just like it was when new even though the rest of the car's paint was shot. The stripe came off like tape and left no glue residue but was hard to get off in places.
It would probably be better if you left it on.

I have a custom one done in gold and silver above the chrome strips with matching stripes on the hood. if i took mine off id use rubbing compound and try to blend it in with te rest of the paint. it would even be good to go over all of the paint with it.

A product that is in common use in the motor trade to remove stickers, competitor's decals and the like is 3M Adhesive Remover. I bought mine at Ace Hardware, but any good hardware store should have it........works great, softens the glue, then you can just peel it off. Use it to remove the glue residue from the paint. The can lasts for ever, and is GREAT for taking off tar. Will not damage cured paint or clear coat.
