Stock Air Filter Orientation

I am restoring a pair of the stock air filter housings and now I can't figure out the orientation (I never had these on the car before this). Does the small hole go on the bottom or the top? It seems to me that this must be to drain water out and so should go on the bottom. Can someone take a look at theirs and let me know. Thanks very much.

Sorry, I can't help with an answer to your question but I'm hoping you or someone else can help me with some suggestions on where to find a stock air filter housing for a 65 sprite. Sorry for the hijack.

No problem. I looked forever and finally found mine on eBay and got them for 5 bucks. They come up every so often, and sometimes are missing parts (such as the internal spacers - you can fabricate these). Don't worry about bolts and washers since they are available from the normal parts folks.

I'm not sure if your year used the emisssions take off from the air filter, and if so, you may have to put up with plain ones, since I've never seen these, except in books.

I had to refinish mine since they were in pretty bad shape cosmetically. Now I'm ready to install and apply the new decals but don't know which end is up since there were no decals on them when I got them.

I'm just going to assume that the British engineers were logical folks and that the holes are in fact to drain water and so should go under.
