Starting problem solved, but...

Gentlemen,

Thanks to your advice I checked out the choke mechanism on the BN1 and found that full choke only pulled the levers about a quarter of an inch. I've now adjusted it so that I get more 'pull' and she now starts after turning over a couple of times.

However I did notice that when everything was disconnected that full travel of the rear carb choke lever was about 5cm whereas the front carb was only 3cm. Is this correct/normal.

Thanks

As a bit of an afterthought, has anyone got any pictures/diagrams they can post that shows how the choke cable should be connected to the carb levers. The connection on my car looks a bit crude consisting of a couple of bits of bent wire!

They ARE a couple of pieces of bent wire. Actually a single wire bent into a V shape with a circle in the center, The main inner wire extends through the circle & is stopped with a clamp.

Each side of the V goes through a trunion on a carb linkage & is secured with a set screw. All three of the wire ends are adjustable to set the total & individual linkage pulls.

For a reason unknown to me, the rear choke operating arm is longer than the front. This results in the rear carb being less choked than the front for the same amount of cable pull. Since the design came from your side of the pond, I leave it to you do decide if it is "normal" D
