MGA Starter tightening up in my mga

Hi...

i installed a new starter about three years ago from Moss..
Its the basic stock model.. have done about 3 to 4,000 miles on it...

Now when I drive the car, after 10 15 minutes, the starter barely cranks the engine over...

I assume it heating up , and getting close to seizing..
once cooled down, I am okay again..

any suggestions on how to fix this, or, do I have the immortal 'poopastic' part..

should I just replace with another stock starer...

your suggestions are most welcome

thank you

It's probably nothing to do with the starter. I suspect you have a bad ground somewhere and it's overheating the starter motor. I would look into that right away before you do any damage to the starter.

thank you...

any suggestions, basically, there is only one hot wire to the starter,,
from the switch, that I had just replaced last month...

but will check to see if there is a continuous flow going to it...

Or, the starter is getting weak and does not like a hot engine with good compression. You do start with the clutch out so as to not have all that extra load.

Look to th' grounds. Sand the mating surfaces where the cables contact th' chassis, both at the battery and the two engine grounds.

If the problem persists after that, you can suspect th' motor itself.

the grounds may be a good idea, a couple weeks back I had to wiggle the ground to get the ignition on..

I will re do all battery terminals, and sand and re-attach main battery ground..thank you

Ground is what I meant to mention, actually. Not sure why I said short circuit originally. A bad ground to the starter will definitely heat it up and is the first place I would look. Had this problem not long ago on a friend's 356.
