what if any other model AH's starters and generators will correctly cross over to the BN2? In other words, can i use ones from other models and still have the correct part for the BN2?
If so, which ones...
thanks
tim

timbn2,interesting question,according to moss all 100 through 3000 model starters are the same moss part # 540-410. www.moss.motors.com, search starter. as far as generators theres the 6 volt,and 12 volt,what do you have?,gens,(22456a-d)=bn1 to c.e. 223154,- p/n.540-360-(22483a-d)=bn1 from c.e. 223155=bn2-bn4-bn6.-p/n 540-370 (22530a-b)=bn7-bt7-bj7.- (22900a-j)=bj8.so they say. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

Ah!, but do they all suffer from the metal fatigue problem that seems to afflict the adjusting bracket?

zblu, why shoulndt they? the entire car suffers from metal "fot-tig-you".couldnt help my self, watched too many bugs bunny toons as a kid. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif but to answer your question,i dont know.

Hello timbn2, all the starters are the same except of course for the manufacturing date. The generators for the BN1 and BN2 are the same but i'm not sure if the 6 cyl cars are the same. Most likely the charging rate will be different.
Hello anthony7777, where did you get this idea of a 6 volt generator from? All Healeys are 12 volt. Maybe bugs bunny is 6 volt (sort of like a souped up duracell bunny) no don't bother going into it.
Hello zblu, yes they all do crack even though the 4 cyl and 6 cyl cars are different designs. Regards, BUNDYRUM.

bundyrum,my ref. to 6 vs 12 volt, was due to the fact that some bn2s have two seperate 6 volt batts.i didnt mean to say 6 v.gen.im wondering if some people are still running a 2 batt system. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

Hello anthony7777, all BN1 and BN2s' had 2 x 6 volt batteries from the factory. Yes i'm sure that there are a lot of them out there that still run the 2 batteries. These days with the size of 12 volt batteries being smaller than they used to be then it's not surprising that people change to 1 battery. You can actually get a higher amperage capacity with 2 batteries than with 1. Regards, BUNDYRUM.

bundyrum, whats up doc?,would this have been a change the concours judges might not get upset about, considered a natural evolution?. id guess theres more single 12v batts. around then the two 6's. i do remember them though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

I suspect that the bracket fatigue problem has more to do with vibration of the very stiff & poorly designed original generator belt. I'm using the original bracket & adjuster with a more modern & much more flexible cogged belt. No signs of metal fatigue on the 50 year old bracket. See attached pic.

Hello Dave Russell, have to agree about your comment regarding the very stiff original belt, however the original design of belt was probably fine for the use it was intended to have as it was designed before WW2. I think they used wide heavy belts back then because the belt manufacturers didn't have the expertise to build a belt to a narrow spec and have it remain reliable. I'll bet having a lighter Alternator to spin will help matters also.
Hello zblu, have to admit to a bit of brain(?) fade here. I just realised i only read half your original comment. I originally replied as if talking about the mounting bracket which is why i said the 4cyl and 6cyl were different designs. Regards, BUNDYRUM.
