Re: Sprite seat recovery - is there a "how to" guide?
Rick –
First – no instructions, but why do you need them when you’ve got the BCFer’s?? I did mine about 18 months ago.
#1) A few points up front – the faster you go the more and severe you will botch this up.
#2) DRY FIT EVERYTHING !! You have two seats – and you will get through this. It took me a few weeks to do ALL interior pieces. And now it looks awesome !!
I did not replace the seat padding, your on your own.
For the seats …..
A) you have 2 – slowly study and remove (cut away) the old fabric. Study how it was installed. Duplicate.
B) Dry fit the “arms” – make sure these fit properly – I had to modify mine. I believe I added some cotton batting to make them fit better.
C) Glue them on using 3M spray glue (home cheapo) heavy duty. Use your hands (CLEAN!!) to add pressure and help adhesion.
D) Dry fit the backs over the frame – once you’ve confirms that all that should be covered – does, take off – glue both sides and attach. You should have a bit of excess on the bottom. This is what you roll up onto itself to attach to the bottom of the frame using staples. I don’t think glue would ever hold.
E) Now I went against ALL recommendations and advice on BCF and used staples vs. glue. The advantage: It’s what was on there and I had something I could reference. Staples can be pulled out and redone if you don’t like the fit / look / etc … I used the Senco “C” – a 3/16 staple (small) – anything larger has a almost certainty of pushing through your new material.

E) For the bottoms – similar. Dry fit to satisfaction. Remove, spray with a small amount of glue and staple on the bottom. I re-do my bottom frames with wood (needed a good item to use with the staples). The metal bases simply were too expensive and I could not justify. My were beyond saving – they had used some sort of metal clip to secure the bottom seal material to the frame.
Good Luck – take it slow and you’ll have an incredible looking car. PM me if you have any Q’s or would like pic’s.
