Spring height question

Maybe Tony knows?
I am lowering the front ride height of my 1962 MGB racer, and my measurement indicates a previous owner put in 1972 roadster springs that are 7.25" loaded height, 10.2" free height. My research finds a Pre-72 GT is only 6.6" loaded height, 9.1" free height. The on-line catalogues do not provide the actual height of the lowering springs they sell. The change would result in lowering of 2" in ride height.
Does anyone have a pre 72 GT spring they could measure to confirm my research, and/or know the actual height of the springs sold for the lowering kits?

I've got all kinds of used springs & the shortest I've found are 9-3/8" end-to-end...they came from under an early GT

Mine are roadster, so no help. Can't quibble over a 0.20" discrepancy tho. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Right now I am racing to go racing .. so many things to finish up. The only VARAC event I plan to attend is the Festival at the end of June. Need to finish up the car first, get my license re-newed somewhere, and shake down the car before that long trip to Mosport. I live 6 hours away from the nearest track which is bad enough, but 2 days for me to get to Mosport.

I just took springs out of my 74 roadster. They were 10" long unloaded. They had 8 coils if you start counting at the 'tail' and count the tail and the coil it is touching as a full coil.

My car was too high in front, and since I planned on replacing the springs anyway, I cut one coil off. I haven't driven it yet, but it is a bit lower. Don't think it would stiffen too much since those coils sit on each other anyway.

Might not... But then again you'd be surprised at how much stiffer they can feel by cutting one coil off. I've seen guys cut 2 coils off of pickup trucks and the ride afterward felt like the suspension was fixed to the frame.

Used cut off plymouth springs in my autocross sprite back in the 60s. Sure cleaned up the handleing, was completely flat at that point. shrug.
