Spridget Rear Suspension.

I found contradictory ideals of setting up the Spridget rear end for racing. One ideal was to stiffen the springs and I just read another that says this is wrong and will cause the back end to break loose much easier, that the front should be stiff and loose at the back. Im on the stiff side now and havent tried it any other way. Am I missing something?

I have stiffened the rear springs, added a Panhard bar and rear sway bar, I find it tracks well in the corners but Like I said I never tried it anyother way. I would think the rear being looser would allow it to oversteer the front more.

The stock Bugeye and early 1/4 elliptical Spridget are very stiff in standard form. Most racers use softer spring on those 1/4 elliptical cars. That's what Winner's Circle suggests too.

For 1/2 elliptical cars, "a bit stiffer" is probably good.

Mine has two extra leaves (I doubled the second-longest and third-longest). I arrived at this setup by trial and error (lots of error!). Seems to work fine. I use longer U-bolts obviously. All my leaf springs have been (cold) re-arced to a flatter shape. I still have lowering blocks, even with the re-arced springs.

I have a panhard rod too. I am thinking of building a "wishbone" instead of a panhard rod for the A35. I saw a picture of one on one of Hap's cars and it looked pretty slick.

No rear sway bar. I put on a moderate diameter one and I hated it. My car's pretty neutral and it made the thing real tail-happy.

My A35 has a rear sway bar standard but I was just reading that they are usually removed for "sporting use".

Front springs are 500# (I think).

I'm using Monroe gas-tube shocks or equivelant (part # 5877R) all around.

If you take your rear swaybar off it will be more likely to understeer (push) more.

If you stiffen your rear springs it will oversteer (get loose)

Oversteer is generally faster to a point.
(It can be a bit scary in fast corners...Don't lift)
