Spitfire Spitfire MK1 or 2 gas pedal bushings

Okay, so I'm trying to put the gas pedal linkage back on my Spifire Mk2 and I am replacing the 2 bushings that the linkage fits into. One on each side of the bulkhead, facing each other. I have tried brute strength (forcing them in)and they crumble. I have warmed them, they crumble. I have soaked them in very hot water, (accelerator bushing tea anyone?)they dissolve. Is there some archaic trick, known only to Druid's and very old Triumph assembly line workers, on how to fit these things? Or is it just get them to fit the best way possible and hope.

I replaced mine and the only thing I can offer is to try silicone spray. I do recall they were a bear to get in, but I only needed one set.

AM having to do mine on the GT6 this winter. Where did you end up purchasing yours?

And did you use the rubber, nylon or plastic?

Thanks

I read on another forum to microwave the bushing for about 3 minutes. Apparently it comes out soft and pliable, but hardens once it cools down.

Supposedly it makes install a bit easier.

Here's a link to the discussion:
Nuked Pedal Bushing

Although it is from a TR6 hopefully it will apply to yours as well.

And hopefully in the various jumble of terminology that the linked thread and this thread are actually talking about the same bushing bearing thingy.

Wanted to see how the pedal bushing install turned out. Just ordered a set for the GT6 and looking at seeing if the microwave worked.

Well I tried nuking the bushings. Stopped at 1 minute as they had actually melted. Ended up using some nylon bushings from a local hardware store. They seem to work well, a little play but this should be resolved when I attached the spring from the lever to the frame. Good luck with yours.
