Spare coil - put it under the hood?

Since my last breakdown/tow I'm getting a bit paranoid.
Here is a spare coil - I'm thinking of attaching it to the fender, as shown, rather than having it banging around in the trunk.
Is this a bad idea?

Have you spliced in another set of wires yet? I would set up jumpers so the only thing you will need to switch os the coil. I had a spare in my Midget wrappped in a rags with a few tool in the bracket for the wiper washer fluid.

Heat and vibration........ I would wrap it in something and have out of the engine bay.

Make a bubble wrap sleeve for it and keep it in the trunk away from the heat etc.

Don't listen to 'em. I think it's cool. Who wants to jack around with diggin' in the trunk and R&Ring a coil in the middle of rush hour traffic. Just switch the leads over and get the heck outta there. Perfect!

If heat and vibration is going to wreck your coil.... it ain't much of a coil.

How often due you have to replace a coil?

I'm with you Morris! Besides, it's a SPORTSSSSSS coil! Ha!
In my TR3 the coil is bolted to the block!

Chris, I hear you on that. But how often do you replace a freakin' starter motor. That thing let me down in 90 deg weather in the 'hood. I'm just trying to get prepared and the trunk space is a bit limited.

Talking of which, in there is one of those big portable jumper battery thingies - you know - has jumper cables, pneumatic hose for your tires, 12V outlet, flashlight. Anyway, I tried to use it to get my lawn tractor started the other day but no deal. Got it going by using regular jumper cables to my Toyota. Does that mean the portable thing is past it's prime and I should invest in a new one? I've had it for like 7 or 8 years. Seems to me the tractor would have been easy but electricity was one of those things I could never understand.

Oh, KSIS, it's positioned so that the existing wires can reach it, no prob.

I just can't see the rear end of my car weighed down with spare parts I just refuse to driven around like I'm driving an old .. british... sports car.
Oh :crazy: Well never mind.
Still wont find Bits in my car other than a fuse a roll of wire and tape and a couple of wrenchs and a screw driver or two. Anything else I can get at a parts store or I cant fix it along side the road so. No parts in the trunk for me. At some piont you need to just get in and drive.
