Looking at a 65 midget in "Hephzibah" for a driver. By chance anyone within a stones throw that can inspect for me if I decide to buy before I drive the 4 1/2 hours to pick up?

Well I promised myself never again. but I did it again. I just purchased a 1965 MG Midget (red) from photos. Last time I got stuck pretty bad

non running condition.wire wheel car. Interior I have no photos to look at,but told wires are hanging.

Didn't do my research so is a 1965 a good model year,I guess they are basically all the same, and are they suppose to have split rear bumper

I bought it strickly for a driver while I rebuild my Bugeyes, so Midget will be maintained only not rebuilt. hopefully the drive train is good. Body looks average with little signs of rust. hood rear right corner is lifted for some reason

65/66 is my favorite square Spridget version. Good motor (the good 1098), disc front brakes, pack-away hood. If it can be made to run then you've got a good one.

I think Tony said they are relativly rare as they didn't make alot in '65. I could be wrong.

How much $$$$, got pics?

"strickly for a driver" "maintained only" "not rebuilt" I like that. I did something similar. I purchased a 62 MKII Sprite "strickly for a driver" "maintained only" "not rebuilt" while I restore my two Big Healeys, and so far I have 2 new Miata seats, new carpet and vinyl to match the Miata seats, new vinyl top, repaired tonneau zipper, all new run rubber from MacGregor, new exhaust, all new cooling system, and I just got my interest peeked on the 5-speed tranny from an eailier thread. Not complaining, I'm loving every minute of it as well as my Dear Wife is enjoying it as much as I am, how cool is that! I'm also getting up the nerve and experence to start in on the more serious jobs of the Big Brothers.

Have a GREAT time with your "DRIVER Only", I hope you enjoy it as much as I am enjoying mine.

If the photos are recent I will be OK.

The Bugeye I purchase last year by photos was terrible. the photos had to be taken 5-10 years previously. top and paint were great in photos no rust etc.. went to Flordia to pick up and top was rotted off, interior sunbaked and rust every where. I already had invested in trip from SC to Ft Meyers and just took it anyway

It was the hardest one for me to find to complete my collection of each Midget....got the 'big' 1098 engine, rib caged transmission, roll-up windows....probably the early Rostyle wheels.

Congrats!

I'm partial, but as a driver, the 65/66 is my favorite. I like the short cockpit that is has over the later versions. It has roll up windows instead of the side screens of the 61->64. It has a real trunk making it more practical than the BE. The 2" main 1098 has tons of torque for around town stuff, yet is smooth enough that it doesn't need the harmonic balancer kludge of the 1275. Front disk brakes, and the later rears make it stop very well. All that and the electrics are simple. Throw in a 5 speed and its a real blast! Drive it anywhere.

My .02¢

Sunday I went and got the 1965 MG Midget, as you will see cars paint is a old and dull repaint. But fallen in love with this one...I keep reminding myself driver driver. but the car has very little rust really no rust through I can see. Interior is decent with new carpet, trunk is clean and new carpet, top has one small cut above pass window but really is a solid little car. Motor compartment hasn't been butchered.

Things that need to be fixed:
2.Top frame is broken above drivers head, I belive I can weld myself
3.Reistall Heater box it has been removed, don't ask me why?
3.Find air cleaners
4.find window handles
5.Repair inside door latch on pass side
6.Install hood it is bowed and not bolted on
7.Find out why there are loose wires under dash and repair put back together
8.Install correct OP&WT gauge
9.Find one windsheild wiper arm/blade
10.Find wire wheel for spare and a jack
11.Then the big one--start engine check brakes etc....

Has a split bumper for some reason, I guess another owner change bumper when they had it painted. Also with the car I got a left frt fender, hood (rough)and two doors in good condition. all off a yellow 68 or above car

I'd cut that paint with some 3,000 grit & then buff the heck out of it!

Good find!

the paint has alot of chips on edges and different repaints, so I am thinking of just washing it with a pot scrubber every time I wash it and it should just flatten the paint out. I am getting ready to send you a list of parts I need used hope you can help me out

"Purple Power" or "Mean Green" do a good job of stripping off oxidized paint down to good stuff.

It'll make it alot eaier when you 3000 like Tony said.

Think of as exfoliating (sic?) your car.

Don't mix it to heavy as it will stain (bleach" the paint. Both work good on old red.....orange, not so well. ( ask me how I know).

p.s Where's my two??? :frown:
