I hope that included a flight to India.
Wonder what a beer and a chilli dog cost?

Re: so i went to the Ritz in London a few days ago

He's probably talking about having dinner there. Spank the wine list and 8200 is quite feasible.

Just not for me...

Re: so i went to the Ritz in London a few days ago

I think the 8200 should have been £200.

Tea at the Ritz is £35 per person (so 6 people = £210):

and its so popular that bookings six weeks in advance are "essential":

... very genteel. They're pretty up-front about their dress code too, one has one's standards.

I've not been there, but Tea at Gleneagles is very, very nice... and a little cheaper.

Re: so i went to the Ritz in London a few days ago

My tea is a dime in my kitchen, good stuff.

Re: so i went to the Ritz in London a few days ago

I couldn't care if Her Royal Majesty made her most Britannic sandwiches with her own bare hands.
I'll never pay 35 quid for a cuppa and a buttie and wait 6 weeks for the 'privilege'.
What is that, $50 ??

Re: so i went to the Ritz in London a few days ago

At todays currency rate, 35 pounds comes to $67.61. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I'd hate to poke down a couple of ales in that place.

Edit: Here's the restaurant menu. WOW, Twice baked goat's cheese souffle for only 24 pounds!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Re: so i went to the Ritz in London a few days ago

If you're feeling adventurous you could try the Fat Duck Restaurant.

Their Tasting Menu at only £97.75 lets you try out Snail Porridge amongst a few delicacies including Smoked Bacon and Egg Ice Cream.

I think it was rated as the best Restaurant in the world a while back.

Wonder if he makes the Ice cream using liquid Nitrogen, or just Dry Ice. Heston Blumenthal is the chef, quite a character it seems....

I've never been, too far, too rich.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: so i went to the Ritz in London a few days ago

Yeah, they pretty much won't let you in the door without a jacket.

I travel to London about once a quarter; there are better places to stay and dine.

Re: so i went to the Ritz in London a few days ago

Next time do Tea at the Savoy instead. They DO let you wear jeans, and it's just as good imo.

Re: so i went to the Ritz in London a few days ago

I have stayed at The Savoy.

Trivia: what is the unique feature of the Savoy's entryway?

Obligatory London photos; it was a beautiful day.

And the view from inside the Eye.

Scott, by the entryway, do you mean the street leading to the door?

Yep.

I thought perhaps you were. I was amazed!
But, I won't spoil it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
