simple question on fenders

Yes, in 74.5 was the switch to rubber bumper fenders. The cutout for the front blinker is different. Later fenders could be used, but you would have to weld up the blinker hole to make it work.

Guy,

I just looked at your photos. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is a good chance your sills are rusting inside out. I noticed in the photo of your rt fender the end of the castle rail has rusted away. That happened to my B too, it's bad news. I would have it checked out. The sills are the major load bearing support structure of the MGB and unfortunately are prone to the tin worm. Once it gets inside, it eats the B inside out. My outer sills were replaced sometime in the past, and the inner sills were poorly patched. On my car, now that patch has started to rust out. Not good. I'm the in the midst of a full sill replacement. Not fun.

yeah, it's in dire need of some major help.
the worst part is even though the passenger side door is sagging, the drivers' side has some rather significant damage where the sill buckled and so did the jacking point.

I've got a friend who is getting ready to do both sides of his 73b. He's rather handy with a welder and we are going to use his car as a guinea pig (so to speak), and if that goes well then we will do mine in the fall (and put new floors in as well).

I don't intend on driving mine much more than up and down the driveway a couple times a month until we start the structural repairs.

It's a project and I knew that when I bought it.
I'm trying to do it all myself and save some $$$ (I'm not all amatuer, I do have some formal mechanics training) my MG guru said it would cost approx $1600 Per Side to have his guys do it.

On a good note though, I know the Engine runs and the clutch is good /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah, it's very expensive to have it done. Same as you and your buddy, I'm doing it myself. I bought a mig a few weeks ago and I'm teaching myself to weld. I'm starting with little projects and slowly moving to getting the sills done. That's great your going to learn on your buddies car! lol So far I've found it's not the welding in new panels that's difficult. Its cutting out the old rusty ones. It's timing consuming, hard work.

But glad to hear about he engine and clutch!
