SI E Type clutch master cylinder

My clutch master cylinder has been giving notice for a while so today I replaced it with one I bought at the NEC Bham a couple of weeks ago. I had tried to buy a rebuild kit for the original Dunlop but am told that they have not available for years. So I bought a replacement which they are now selling which has the same fixing centres but the outlet to the slave is on a slight angle but fitting the line is a fiddle but it worked. I had to use the original rod and fork and grind down the piston retaining washer to 20mm to fit in the recess prior to fitting the circlip. So far so good but having bled the system I am not getting full clutch release but if I pump I can.

A few things are bothering me, Maybe I still have air in the system but I think not, the slave cylinder is good with no leaks and I resleeved it in stainless years ago.

What might be the problem is the new cylinder, and on closer examination I realise that the outlet connection is closer to the mounting flange. The original Dunlop dimension is 85mm but the replacement cylinder is only 63mm, resulting in less swept volume. The replacement cylinder does not have a makers name but has 2 sets of numbers stamped on it 8877X29B2 and on the steel casting S64677906 though the last 6 and the 9 were not clear.

My questions to you guys are, What are you now fitting as a clutch master replacement and where is your source of supply , and are rebuild kits available for the original Dunlop, and lastly any expert advice out there as to a problem I have not forseen.

PS the slave cylinder is the one without the return spring.

Thanks in advance,

Ok Guys, I have solved the problem with the clutch master cylinder, I had been supplied with the incorrect version and the bore was .625 and not .750 as the original was.

I have ordered an OE from SNG Barrett UK. Thanks Basil
