Short BE Tonneau

Is there any advantage to having the short BE Tonneau? I see a red one on E-Bay right now but why a short tonneau. It appears the short tonneau is 6-8" shorter and requires the installation of an extra set of snaps. So why Short Tonneau vs. a Long Tonneau. Otherthan looks any functionality difference?

Jim, back in the 70s when I had my first BE I used the short cover because then I could have the top up as well as a tonneau cover. The right hand side of the cockpit could be covered in cooler weather or you could close the cockpit up without installing the side curtains when leaving the car parked. Charlie

My full tonneau catches a fair bit of wind and flaps a lot. Maybe a short tonneau is more secure?

OK guys I hate the thought of installing extra snaps and drilling more holes. There is a Red one I saw on E-Bay yesterday. Asking $150 or best offer.

Jim, My current 1959 BE came with the snaps in place for a short tonneau and I am using them for a short tonneau. Charlie

Does the unit have pre-drilled snaps? If so, I think it adds a level of work. If the pins are already on your car then it's best to custom fit a new unit so that the snaps will be tight (and fit really well).

My BE is fitted with the posts for a short tonneau and in my opinion the fewer holes in a BE the better. If I were ever in an accident they would just be something else to poke holes in me with! IMHO go with the long one unless you plan on driving with it fitted a lot. The long one would then cause more paint wear.

Kurt.

Actually, my dreams center mostly on being imploded by a BE's steering column...ah.. what's a couple of bee stings from posts...hah hah

Still thinking about it. I've got lots of other things to buy and budget has already been seriously impacted by wife's spring garden purchases. Need to get flywheel & MC off to Gerard for a rebuild and 5 speed kit.
