Did anyone happen to see the Shelley LJ21 57 Jack sell on Ebay recently for $647.53? Ebay item # 350446900440.
Is that a record for a Healey jack?
This jack was manufactured in 57 so it only was used with the Longbridge BN4 or did it also carry over to later models?

How tall would that jack be closed?

About 6.5 inches, making it part of British car folklore:

It wouldn't fit under the car even when the tires were inflated, so when you had a flat and the car was even lower, you either had to lift the car up to get it under there (good luck doing that by yourself), or you had to dig a hole to put it in (remember to drive off the pavement when you pull over to change a flat tire).

I don't think they did quite as much testing and development in those days as we have come to expect nowadays

(That's why we say that these jacks are suitable only for car show display, or just to satisfy the desire to complete the set of your Healey's original equipment. God bless you if you ever really needed it!)

Thats why I need to buy the second one! So I can drive up on it in order to be able to fit the first one under the car. The Anderson -Moment guide used in conjunction with the jack under the wheel gives that extra clearance necessary. --elrey

It looked tall that was why I questioned it. I guess that they designed it with the extra kerb height in mind, but you are stuffed if you were in the country.

There is a shorter Shelley jack on UK E-bay but the pattern is different. L23 from memory.

I recall someone (maybe Norm Nock) saying that one needs to carry a large rock to drive up on so the jack could be used.

This jack is sweet. It includes the repo handle. I thought no one was interested in the Longbridge BN4?
I just wonder where the seller got the idea to put his jack on ebay now??

Well it looks like these Shelley Jacks are flooding the market. The most recent sale price on Ebay was $638 and this one included the handles.
How many of these jacks are in the Oregon rain forest?

How much $$$ you got?

I think you are about right.

Functionally these jacks qualify as an artifact. But at the prices they are bringing you don't need no art and that's a fact---Keoke-- :D--

Your recollection is very good John.
These jacks will not fit under the car and if you have a puncture it is even worse---Keoke--
