Seatbelts - harness'

I figure since Santa Claus may feel so inclined to bring me a harness I should advise him of the correct one to buy. Rules specify H type. (NO Y Type.) I only have one mounting hole in center behind seat. (Which even if I got an H type, bolting them together would create a Y type and this could be a problem?) Or should I get Wrap around harness. ( I assume these individually wrapo around the rollber behind the seat. (Do they require clearance- I am right against the crossmember with the seat back.)

UGGH! Hopefully some of this makes sense....

I am wrapping mine around a shoulder-height bar in the Escort. You have a similar bar, so that should work for you.

My Spridget is different with two welded mounting points on a shoulder-height bar.

You are correct.....no "Y" type belts allowed.

By the way, be sure to get "FIA tagged" harnesses and not "SFI tagged" belts. The FIA belts are good for 5 years and the SFI belts are only good for 2 years.
Also, if you order them, wait until '08 and insist on 2008 tags. That way, they should be good for an extra year (at least in EMRA....I think the SCCA only allows them for 60 months, which may cause them to expire a little sooner).

By the way, I personally think that allowing SFI belts for only 2 years is overkill and if they are in good condition, I would like to see them OK'd for 5 years.....but that's another story.

Nial, and Lou, FIA belts come wtih an expiration date tag on them. They expire on Dec. 31st of the year on the tag.
And, the way the rule is written, with some judicious shopping, you can run SFI belts for three years.
I agree, the current SFI belt rule is ridiculous.
Thank you, Dale Earnhart.

Thanks guys. Thats what happens when an NHRA guy designs your cage. the little things change. I'll get a harness that wraps around that horizontal bar.

Lou, you should make sure anything you do to your car is going to be in compliance with the rules of the sanctioning body you are going to be racing with. I don't care if its a beautifully done cage, if it's not in compliance with the rules, it doesn't run on our track until it is. I said earlier, I usually have to turn at least one person away every year, because they have done things their way, rather than read a rule book first.
For another instance, many things that are allowed in the SCCA rulebook aren't legal for vintage, and vice versa.
