Seat track placement BN4

During the restoration process on the BN4, I found it necessary to replace the floor pans on both sides of the body on my '58 BN4. The planels were purchased from Moss and came without holes for the heat shield and the seat tracks..

The heat shield was self explanitory.. however, the placement of the seat tracks is a bit of a challenge... Anyone know where I might find a diagram that shows where the tacks should be placed??? OR should I just find an approximate location and drill away??

By the way, the original bottom panels were completely rusted out so there was no part to use as a reference.

Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Well,

I put mine in approximately or rather adjusting it to my height (I'm 6'3 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif).

I found that the original placement didn't give me enough leg room so I moved them back keeping in mind that the mechanic might want to reach the pedals as well /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

Higgins,

I am 5'9" and my business partner is somewhat shorter so the shorter and original seat placement would be preferable.

Do you have any idea how much space should be between the bottom of the rear panel and the back of the bottom of the front seat frame in the original placement???

Thanks...

Copy me as well if you don't mind.

BTW. I'm off to Houston in the morning /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif with the help of fellow forum member Tim Moran /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif to get my car from Jay's shop. We moved the household items on April 19, so I have been Healey free for too long. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

Patton, welcome back, if only to take yet another Healey from Houston. Say hi to Tim, I follow him a bit on the modified site. Ron, try this on for size. I have 6 - 3/8" holes, an inside row of 3 against the driveshaft tunnel, and an outside row along the sill. Inside rear is 13 11/16" from rear panel. Outside rear looks like 13 1/2" from rear seat panel. Split between the inside and outside holes is 12 3/4". Rear outside is 3 13/16" from sill. Front outside is 3 1/2" from sill. As you can see, the holes are not parallel to the the sill and not quite perpendicular to the rear seat panel. Lay this out and see how it looks.

I just reduced it to size then uploaded. It was a while back, so I may have forgotten a step. I will try to change it this weekend if I remember to see if I can.

Thanks, first time in Houston since the move. MUCH less travel than the old job. I will say hi to Tim, he put his car in my garage tonite so didn't have to unload the trailer in the morning to go get my car. WOW!!! that 300 HP motor firing up is impressive.

Randy,

Thanks for the effort and the time. I will lay it our with the figures you offered. My only question...

Inside rear is 13 11/16" from rear panel. Outside rear looks like 13 1/2" from rear seat panel.

[/ QUOTE ] Just to make sure...are these measurement points for the location of the rear hole???

Thanks again... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Just to impose and since we are talking about seats...

The seat base... Is the angled part of the bottom frame on the inside (against the tunnel) or on the outside (toward the door)??

These should help you locate both rear holes. The other dimensions are either the distance between the rear holes (12 3/4") or the distance from the outside holes to the sill. You'll need to use your seat track to establish the centers other than the rear ones. Let me know if you need anything further.
