Sanding the paint, like rings on a tree

Indeed, it does.

Please tell me that you used a wax & grease remover (or at the least, Dawn dishwashing detergent) before cutting into the paint.

Forgive such a basic comment, but not doing so will cause problems down the road, especially if you're doing anything less than a full stripping of finishes, down to the bare metal.

If you have ever seen "Fordite" (check Ebay for pictures)you will appreciate that appearance. It is called Fordite cause the floor of the paint rooms in Detroit were scrapped and the chips were dumped. The dumps were raided and jewelry carved form the chunks of layered paint. The stuff can get expensive. My wife has some and it is beautiful.

The car is being painted by a guy that did a show quality paint job on my GT350 clone that I completed last year (below). He's been doing it for 20 years and knows what he is doing. He cut through this area to show me what he was up against.

Tim,

Nice stang. I'm looking forward to having the Healey back together. In my opinion it is a much more fun car to drive.

I did the drivetrain, interior on the stang, but I have a great paint guy that is really reasonable and does great work.

Here is a before. In the end, it was a very accurate clone and I sold it to an offer I couldn't refuse.
