Spitfire Restored the dash in the 69 spit with a veneer

Hello thought i would share what i have done, i removed the old worn plastic covering from the dash and glued a mango veneer over it and refinished it with a lacquer based clear. the hardest part was cutting the holes for the gauges and the switches. I didnt get pics before i started but will post pics of the dash when it is finished. hope you guys enjoy it was a lot of work but turned out very good.

all the cutting was done with a xacto knife! then sanded with 320 grit and all edges rounded to give a factory look.

hey guys thanks for the complements, i will say this i have never done anyhing like this before and after looking at the cost of dash panels in the 300 ish range i thought what the heck and for about 6 hours and 75 bucks i have these od dash pieces. the mango was used because i bought remnant pieces because i had no idea how this would turn out. after a 10 min. tutor from the local supplier i was on my way home.

not sure the mango if that's even what that is was a good choice but it will be nicer than the old vinyl covering. for others who are interested f
or about 90.00 they have 2'x4' sheets of veneer with 3m backing on it that comes ready to install and cut. was told the 3m backed stuff is a bit harder to cut as the taped edges dont cut as clean. i bought a birch piece to try out on a old vw westy camper that has some water staining i want to redo. so we will see how that works out.

Where did you get the veneer from. I've been looking to repair my dash and am having trouble finding what I need.

Is the 3M type the one you use an iron to heat the adhesive to stick it?
