removing the front discs

Hello BCF,

I just recieved an Austin Healey 3000 mk1 from my father (Yes, I feel very lucky). It hasn't been started in 17 years. Where am I at right now? I am trying to remove the front discs so that I can get the machined.

I got the grease cup out and I need to remove the castellated hub nut. My question is....What size socket do I need to remove this nut?

Thanks,
Dan
Portland Oregon

ps: I would add a picture but I havn't figured this out yet (yes I am new).

Hi Dan, I do not remember the socket size either, However, if the disks are severely grooved or deeply pitted by rust I would forgo turning them. There is very little turning room on the disks and removing too much material can make them unsafe. I would consider replacing them with new. OTOH, If its just light rust on them I would see if they did not clean themselves up after you get the car running and drive it a bit.--Fwiw--Keoke

The nut is 1-1/8".

I removed the pin by bending it a little and then noticed the pin access hole on the hub. I should read the book befor doing work, not after.

Thanks guys
