Rear hub oil seal removal

Any tips on removing the oil seal from a rear hub? I'm rebuilding my rear hubs today and find that the old oil seals are reluctant to come away from the hubs. Thoughts?

Are you talking about the seal, or the hub itself? The seal should come out using a screwdriver from the back side. Just realize that it will be junk and you will be putting in a new one. Don't hit and scratch the side of the housing, just go after the rubber seal part. If you are real classy, there are seal removal tools which are inserted from the bearing side and slip behind the seal. In order for the hub to come off, one needs a puller of one type or another. I'm doing that task, today, actually. Good luck

Agreed with above..just plan on new ones and drive out from back side. You do need to be careful not to gouge the seal surface..

This is just the seal -- the hubs are already off and on my bench. I'll just have to be more persuasive with my screwdriver. I've got all new seals and bearings to go in once everything is apart and cleaned up.
