The rear fender beads on an XK 140, were they painted the body color or were they left stainless? Mac

Personnaly, I think they look great when nice and bright chrome but the 150's were painted (OEM). Are you concerned about a pionts reduction if the are polished SS?

Vettedog72, I'm not too concerned about point reduction but would like to restore to original. So from what you said, I'm guessing that the 140's were left stainless? Mac

HI Mac, I had an occasion to visit my car storage facilty today where I have an unmolested 140 FHC awaiting restoration. The fender beads are painted body color. The car is complete except I need an entire interior and there is no rust.---Fwiw---Keoke

To the best of my memory, Jaguars of that vintage never used stainless steel beading. Beading was usually black or a matching color. As repainting was done, the beading usually wound up the same color as the body. An exception to this rule was the E Type which used stainless steel beading between the center bonnet section and the wings. Only in recent history has the importance of correct colors for the beading become an issue. When in doubt use black for an XK 120,140 or 150.

John:
He's talking about the surrounds on the rear wheel well openings; not the beading between fenders and body/ etc.

Vettedog, thanks for the clarification. The trim surrounds for the rear wheel wing cutouts were always painted the coachwork basic color. I have never seen stainless trim for that location. Further, I dont think it would look appropriate unless the front wheel cutouts were similarly finished in stainless. Treat the surrounds like a piece of the bodywork with the basic chassis trim color.
