Anybody know the weight of a 3000 rear axle assy?

How hard is it to find one of the 3.5(?) ratios? I thought they were all 4.1 until recently.

Thanks,

Don't know for sure but they are heavy. I'd guess about 70 or 80 lbs.

3.54 diffs are fairly rare. They were standard on a non overdrive 3000. 4.11s are much more common as these were the standard ratio used on 100-6s with overdrive. 3.90 diffs were standard on 3000s with overdrive.
As for the weight of a rear axle assembly, complete with drums, I would say closer to 250 pounds.

According to the Bentley manual, The Complete Official Austin-Healey 100-Six AND 3000 1956-1968, the rear axle weighs 166 Lbs. (75.454 kg.).

Thanks all. It looks like it is the same as a Ford 8.0 (AL center) which is what I am considering for my V-8 conversion. A Healey 3.54 would be much easier if it could be found and would survive with a low-spec 289.

There was just a group-buy, so to speak, on some 3.54:1 gears. I have a set, as yet still uninstalled (don't even ask...) from a prior batch.
