TR2/3/3A Rear brake shoe steady post

Hi All,
Can you explain to me the adjustment for the rear brake shoe steady posts on a 1957 TR3? The posts with a felt tip/bush on them. Do you adjust them so the brake shoe just does not touch the brake backing plate? What happens as the felt tip crushes, ages, or wears due to brake shoe movement?

They need to be adjusted so the shoes are parallel to the drum (and to each other). For me at least, that meant the shoes were a moderate distance away from touching the back plate.

Wear in those posts caused a slightly low brake pedal and a strange, soft clunk shortly after releasing the brakes. When the brakes were applied, the shoes apparently walked out to meet the drum surface, then fell back against the posts when the brakes were released. Took me a long time to find the clunk, then I noticed the pedal was firmer as well.
