My left side rear brake is froze and by the sound of it the place that is working on it thinks they might have to cut the drum off. They cant get it to budge. Its not the emergency brake cable as that is free-seems as if the brake cylinder frooze up. Is there anywhere to check for the rear drum other than victoria british and moss motors as they dont show them avalible?

I got a used one from TSI:

The Roadster Factory might have new, though when I looked there was some confusion (probably on my part) if they actually had the early or late drums.

If they are about to cut the drum anyway, tell them to try pounding all around the outside with a BFH. They will take a surprising amount of beating without breaking, as long as you stay away from the corner where the face joins the braking surface, and any ribs or whatever. I have loosened several of them up that way, enough to get them off without damage.

And if it does break, they were going to cut it anyway, so nothing lost.

I've had ones before that I had to bust off with a sledge hammer. They are cast iron, so they will shatter if you hit them hard enough. I saw a guy selling new ones at a reasonable price on ebay. If you want a used one, I should have more than a few of the 5 speed versions laying around. Doubt I have any 4 speed ones. 4 speed stuff goes straight to the scrap yard.

tr8todd- Thats good to know cause mine is a 5 speed and I may need one-used is ok-far better than not being able to get one. He is going back after it in the a.m. not sure what is causing the rear left to lock up and need to get it off to see what is going on in there. Ill let you all know if we get it off and what happens. Hang on to a drum for me if you can!!

They got it off! Now I have to order a rear brake kit and clutch master and slave cyl. as they were leaking to. Hope this comes to a end. Thanks for the ideas. Jim
