Rust repaired on floors. Ready to put carpets etc back in. Any good suggestions to replace/improve on the original equipment foam mats glued to floor under the carpet? Second question-I have the original interior Autumn Leaf, but carpet is black in front and tunnel, but brown on rear shelf and wheel wells. How strange is that?? Why did MG equip that way?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

1. Velcro
2. No one really knows, maybe British Leyland had extra parts of one colour of no enough of the other?? The colour is Black and Chestnut. Its an odd colour that always looks dirty, or maybe mine always is?

get some of that space age foil water heater insulation at Home Depot and put it under the carpet. Keeps the interior cooler

I don't know about black and chestnut, but I have a 74 MGB GT parts car with what I thought was a tan interior until I removed the shifter console. The part of the carpet that was protected from the sun for all these years is a dark chocolate brown.
The floor mats still have some brown paint/stain on them also, but are black now where worn. They appear to have been all black originally and painted to match the interior.

If you late model car had 2 tone colour for the factory then it was brown and chestnut. That's th only combination of two tone that was ever available(someone corect me if I'm wrong). maybe someone has replaced it.

Edward ,
just finished cleaning, rust profing(rust bullet)and installing insulation all over the cockpit(fatmat). It took almost 100 sq. foot of insulation to do the whole inside with 2 layers on the floors and foot wells. If installing a high power stereo make sure you run all the wires and cables before putting down your insulating material, which hides them. I used studs in the floor pan to locate the seat holes. First 3 pictures in link below are of insulated cockpit.

Snaps or velcro on the floors. Assuming it is roadster they can get wet and it is great to be able to pull them out. I did same on tunnel. Glued insulation to wall behind seats but didn't slather it on there either.
