radiator drain tap

Anybody have problems with a replacement radiator drain tap from Moss? Just replaced an old leaky one and its washer and still have the same problem. Not leaking from the threads but the bottom of the tap. Moss is sending a replacement. They claimed no negative history with this part. Any tricks I should be aware of?

I rebuilt my original and used some grease on the pivoting shaft to insure a good seal. I bound this out when replacing a hose bib that leaked. The stuff off the shelf sits too long and dries out. Then you turn it once and break the dry seal. Once fixed you need to turn it occasionally like once a year when you change the coolant.

Don't believe "no negative history". I wish I could say they are problem free, but no such luck. I had them replace 3 of them. All leaked. Same as you, bottom of the tap.

I gave in and replace with an aftermarket modern drain tap. Problem free as soon as I screwed it in.

(These were all installed on a fresh recorded radiator.)

Had the same issues.. i also replaced it with a modern drain.
I did keep the old one though.... one of these days I will repair it.....LOL

Thanks everyone. After reading the replies, I sprayed a little silicone on the original tap to free up the pivoting shaft. Bought a neoprene washer and applied a little teflon tape to the threads. Reinstalled the original and no longer have any leaks. Will return the replacement tap to Moss.
