I've been on this earth for 69.5 years and never needed one of these. Now I have one and still don't need it. But it is accurate, cuts dead square and is great fun to watch. Everyone should have one.

Yes, exactly, now that you mention it. Reminds me of my friend's toy steam engine that runs on rum. Tom

I've always wanted one for the shop, but a good used one goes for around $700 and up. An industrial quality one goes for over $2000. Don't know how true of a cut the cheap ones would be. PJ

You can pay a lot from used tool specialists, both on line and the few left with store fronts but they are far from high demand items and can be bought reasonably, if you have the time and inclination to look around. Mine is somewhere between the half ton heavy industrial type and the benchtop. With it's cast iron base and motor it weighs close to 200 lbs. I paid $300 including a good supply of replacement blades. It seems well designed having adjustments for blade tension and cutting pressure including a relief on thee backstroke. It has a drip oiler. The vice works great for straight right angle cuts. However, when cutting miters, the further fro 90 degrees you get, the more difficult it becomes to clamp the work. Secure clamping is crucial to accuracy so pay close attention to the vice. I'm experimenting with some modifications to the vice but in general very pleased with the machine.
