pedal box bolt

i have a pedal box with pedals still installed. i am trying to remove the bolt that holds both pedals in place. it doesn't seem to come out even after some fairly strong raps of a hammer or turns with a wrench. there doesn't seem to be anything holding it in, but having done damage to other parts in the past, i felt i should ask this forum before doing any stupid damage. pedals and bolts are free to move. don't know what's holding it. there is a spacer washer in between the pedals. could that be cocked and preventing the bolt from coming out?

Wait, the box is installed in the car? There is not enough clearence in that case. The box must unfastened and lifted so that the bolt can be removed in the engine compartment. You can prob leave the hydraulic lines connected.

Pb Blaster and a bigger hammer I am afraid. It's rust, the master cylinder is cast iron.

Just a bolt with a nut on the end. Lock washer as well I think.

Can you rotate the bolt? If so, keep rotating with add liberal PB Blaster applications, then a little gentle persuasion!

Took mine off this morning with one light twist of the wrench. Toughest part for me was separating the box from the chasis. The tar paper gaskets were holding well.

The bolt gets corroded to the pedals and needs to be "persueded" to come free. I gently heated mine, while on the bench then used penetrating oil to loosen it. The cooling metal seems to draw the oil into it better than the PB alone. Use a heat gun, not a torch!!! You might also try a giant vise or a press to get it moving, use a socket on the head side to press it into.
