Outer and inner sill [rocker] installation

I'm going to have my TR guy install these which I've purchased from TRF. Anyone have a suggestion on how I should prep them before I give them to my guy? I'm going to have the car painted sometime after (some fender work needs to be done) the install. But should I prime it and paint it before he installs them? Then give them to him? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No-the welding will destroy all your efforts your guy should know what to do.---Keoke

He's going to have to sand parts of them them down to bare metal to weld them in,then grind down the welds. Priming won't happen until after all the welding and grinding. so I woulden't do anything to them. Anything you put on will just be more stuff the body guy has to take back off.

Hi,

Most of those parts come with some sort of protective coating already on them and might need no prep. However, sometimes a worthwhile option is to use a weld-through primer that's available at most welding supply shops.

Depending upon the welding method used, some or much of any coating might remain to help protect the inside areas that can't be reached very well to paint after the car is assembled.

If a spot welder is used, it will actually damage very little of the paint/primer. MIG welding would effect a larger area, stick welding even more, and oxy/acetylene welding probably even more. All these methods might be used to install the parts, depending upon what the installer prefers to use and the equipment they have available.

I agree with the weld-through primer suggestion. I always use it, although I must admit I've never seen any test results proving that it works.
