Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week night

So, we had our annual "Company Christmas Party" last night. With the way things are run in Disney it boils down to about 3 per year. We have the Corporate party where they shut down the parks for 2 nights and only let employees in, and that was last week. No alcohol at that gig, but it's still 'good' fun to romp around the parks with just co-workers.

Last night was the second party, the "Consumer Products" branch of the big mouse company, and they decided to rent a club and have an open bar from 5:30pm to 9pm, which was good fun. The best of which was seeing people outside the normal work environment, and seeing which ones were attempting to drink their share of the Christmas bonus that we don't get /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Of course, I decided not to drive to this event, even though we had valet parking (the clowns that do that wouldn't be able to start my car anyways). So, my getting home was dependent on someone else. Which of course translates into 9pm was too early to 'call it a night', and further translated into a bunch of drunk people roaming the streets of Hollywood looking for a new bar to hang out in til all were ready to hang up their coats. 2AM gents, 6 of us packed into a Crown Vic taxi (5 in the back 1 up front), to get back to where we started. I saw the need early in the night and decided to be responsible, and cut myself off around 8:30. I'm glad too, my ride didn't stop til around 1.

Was a good time, but like the title says, some things just shouldn't happen on a week night. I'm not hung over, but I'm still feeling some of the effects of last night. I made sure to pop some "vitamin M" before hitting the rack last night cause I didn't want the headache I felt coming on waking me up before it was time.

I also went to a company party last night, complete with open bar. Thankfully I drove myself. I can't stand being "carless" for the very reason you stated. I was still up too late after waiting 30 minutes in the valet line. I can't stand valet and won't give them my car, so we took my wife's modern sedan.

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

Whole concept of "valet parking" gives me th' "heebie-jeebies."

Our "Annual See-and-be Seen" was Tuesday eve. Separate cars for logistical reasons... stopped the consumption at about the same time as Rob (8:30-ish), knowing I'd be transporting meself back to th' hovel around 10-ish. Had a great time "networking" with the regular bunch, saw more unfamiliar faces than "regular" ones... These gatherings get Curiouser and Curiouser every year now.

...the upside is: my bud with the Z-8 and I are plotting a Miata race-car effort as a consequence. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

oh yeah... I did the driving for the return trip. I caught up with everyone I was with and we all made it safe. Though, some of us are a bit worse for wear than others. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Knowing "What to kiss... and WHEN" is a BIG factor. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

A "side bene" of some unofficial military training, no doubt. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Went to the works Christmas dinner. Very nice. Nursed one big-ish glass of wine through the whole night 8-10:30. Drove home happy. Got to meet people socially and tell lies about all the progress I'm making on my car(s)....

Whole concept of "valet parking" gives me th' "heebie-jeebies." -- several years ago in westchester county n.y. a gent drives up to a local golf club and tosses his keys for a brandy new testa rosa at the 17 y.o."valet" well the young kid and his bud also a "valet" decide to take it out for a test drive on the highway ive forgotten if it was i-684 or 287 anywho, they very near killed themselves and totaled the "prancer." - i get to play in a band for some of these partys x-mass and otherwise and cant believe how some people that cant even walk get in thier cars to drive home, last year a local female teacher whom had attended a retirement party jumped lanes and in a "head on" killed my neighbor his wife and one of thier employees right around the corner from me, her blood alcohol level was off the charts i believe she was recently sentenced. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

I play a lot of these parties this time of year (have my tux in the car for one tonight, actually). It's always amazing to see how much folks are willing to cut loose at these events. Maybe it's the novelty of drinking with your co-workers, who knows.

At an event I played last year the only parking available was valet (swanky place). I was pretty sure it was the first time that valet had to park a slightly ratty Hyundai with lots of bumper stickers. I got a kick out of it, actually. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yeah... had an opportunity for a bit o kissing at the party and even a bit afterwards, but given the situation and her condition, I couldn't in good conscious do it... it would have been like I was taking advantage of the situation, and put me on the same level as all the other guys that had been hitting on this lass all night, which she made clear to me she was glad I wasn't doing.

She didn't make it in to work yesterday, but we caught up on the phone so I know she got home ok. Can't wait to see her today so I can rib her a little... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Serious brownie points there, my man........being a gentleman has definite benefits! And if you are also able to cook.....!!

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

Smooth move my man. Puts you way way up on the list.

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

did someone say being able to cook? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have a few recipes up my sleeve that I think makes for good eats :p

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

d'oh! found out today she's allergic to basil... looks like most of my eye-tie eats will have to be modified or scratched off the list... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

Oooo, I see some serious activity here, changeing recipes. Whats she think of old cars and dirty hands?

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

eh... no.. not serious... was thinking out loud to me self there in case I ever do get a chance to cook for her.

Been good friends with this one for a little while now, really good friends. Good enough friends that some of the things we do in public might seem couple-like even though we're just friends. It's a situation that we both like, and something that isn't going to change anytime soon... unless...

eh, I think it best I leave it at that.

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

Ahhhh Haaaaa. I get the message. It's serious, kinda, and you are testing the comfort zone, kinda. What do you think it is all about, it's being with your best friend most of the time, kinda. Shucks, I got your number and so does she. hehe.

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

Actually going back to the original title, we used to say that it was BETTER to have it during the week. That way you'd get paid to suffer the hangover, rather than having it on your own time /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Oof! Some things shouldn't happen on a week n

Good point, oh gesh, hangovers, a remnent of the past.
