Well my wife is having her birthday this weekend - although she is 29 and holding, lets just say if you rounded to the nearest mid-century mark you'd be spot on..

Anyway, the big treat for her is tomorrow I have planned a romantic getaway - to Stoneleigh

Can you imagine, strolling hand in hand, eyes looking lovingly at all those Triumphs and parts for sale - it just makes me teary eyed!

Anyway, this will be our first big Triumph event since moving over to the UK, and probably last as it looks like we're heading back to Texas this summer again. So I intend to enjoy things while I can.

I'll try to post followup pics, and hopefully brag on any parts I might buy as presents for my little darling. If anyone has thoughts or pleas on small parts they are dying for, just post or pm me - no promises but you never know!

You Lucky Lucky Man. If I even thought of taking my wife to a car show on her birthday and then bought parts for the 3... Well... lets just say it's very cold in the garage right now.

Once I got my wife to go to one show, she became pretty much hooked for now, but only IF the weather is decent. It seems, at least with the clubs that I'm a member of, that there is a very large group of ladies who also enjoy the hobby and travel along.

The Saturday tech sessions belong to the guys, but the travel events are coed and enjoyed by all.

She actually reminded me that I forgot to make reservations for our Cape Cod club's WinterFest dinner and dance night. I did that yesterday and she'll be happy to go, knowing full well that I'll spend the night talking cars and projects with another bunch of piston heads.

But as she always says, "I'd rather have you working on the car or at a tech session than hanging around a bar all day".

Sounds like a win-win to me!

My local multi marque club is the same way. Plenty for both the ladies and the men. Our ladies have also formed a Tea and Knitting society within the club and some knit and while their husbands drive on some of our tours. We even had a lady president in the club a few years ago.

Our Cape Cod Club has a few of the ladies who drive their MGA's, MGB's, Mini's and TR3's that will give many a guy a run for their money on a winding back road. They slow down for nothing going in and out of turns and are actually a ball to watch as the hubbies hold on for dear life.

One of the gals is a VP now and did a great job running an event through the wine country in MA/RI last fall. She'll make a great club president someday.

Have fun. Sounds as though your wife is enjoying your tyme in England as much as any wife should. If it were my old lady (I say that sweetly), she would smile and tolerate, which is all I can ask for. I let her do her thing and she lets me do mine.

I have a way with women.

It costs a lot but it's a way.

A trip to a car show for HER BIRTHDAY!!!!! My wife whom I love dearly would first shoot me (not fatally) then make me watch while she shoots my car. You are a brave man, you are my hero.

Whew-

Made it back after a great day at Stoneleigh. As you can see, my little darling is quite happy with her new present of a Moto-Lita wheel, and Triumph earings to boot! Not shown, but she also walked off with new floorpans, sills, a nice speedo, 3 great sleeved thermostats, and a bunch of other stuff. That lucky gal!

I've been to one national VTR show about 15 years ago, so maybe my memory has dimmed, but this parts meet was BIG. Not really a car show, but still some nice cars - couple of roadsters, and a pricey TR5. Interesting, though, to see some of the less common models (for the U.S.) - Dolomite,Herald,Vitesse,Mayflower, etc. If you are interested, various snaps can be found at the following link: Stoneleigh Pics

It's funny, when I quickly glanced at the ambulance in the background, I thought it said "Spousal Unit" rather than Response Unit.

Nice move on the TR earrings. I got my wife a pair of those in June to go along with a customized distributor and Pertronix ignition. Smooth move.............

Bill, you did just fine with the welding of the pans. We just have to keep you away from painting anything.

Bill-

Come on now, I'm heading back to Houston soon and I was counting on you to help me get those installed. Those welding pictures you put out looked great!

Good morning, Randy. Actually, replacing floorpans was not all that bad. My big issue was I had to replace them while working inside a closet! What I would give for a full-sized workshop.
Every step I took was over or around something, literally. I now have them coated and can start to put the car back together. Got 4 weeks till the car show in New Orleans. Not a lot of time. Silly things keep getting in the way, like work.

Randy,
Thanks for all of the pictures. It looked like a good show. I think I would end up bankrupting myself if I were there!

Nick-

You're more than welcome on the pictures - we (okay, maybe I) had a great time, I still can't believe all those parts crammed under one roof. My wife said I had the 'deer in the headlights' look as I couldn't decide what to look at or buy first. My indecision cost me a very nice weber manifold setup, a TR4 bonnet, and I never did find the surrey hardtop I really, really want. But I sure did bring a lot of other stuff out of there.

Incidently, I chatted with Tony Beadle, editor of Triumph World and mentioned that I couldn't find Triumph World in the London area. Tony said they had distribution problems. Funny thing is I went to WH Smith today and lo and behold, a stack of Triumph Worlds - Tony gets things done quickly!

More importantly, there is a little side article in the latest edition about a certain Nick Morgan. Looks like the article was slightly out of date - you were still contemplating your 1300TC purchase..
