Oil pressure low

recently rebuilt the cylinder head. Removed the entire engine -- inspected the bearing and cylinders. Had no history on the condition of the engine. Found bottom to be fresh. Valve train worn. rocker busings, shaft, rocker arms all replaced.

After reassembled -- oil pressure is lower than I remember. 50 psi cold 20 psi hot -- little change from idle to 3500 rpm when hot -- Flow to top end is low

Ideas as to the best place to look for the problem?

Removed oil pan to inspect --
Oil pump is good, main bearing clean, no debris found in the oil pan.

well i guess i would ask... how many miles on the clock. and then just how "good" is the oil pump? you might also want to check the pressure relief valve.

just a thought or two

I rebuilt mine in 1987 and have a lot of miles on it and mine runs at those same readings.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder how these engines would register on the same guage.

I always eliminate the simplest things first. Make sure the gauge is Ok. Even though it was when you started does not mean it is now. Then go on from there - pump etc.

I assume all bearings and if you removed the rings went back in exactly the same place?

If you had the motor out and did NOT replace the bearings, for no more than they cost, I can only ask WHY????? There is no more certain way to get a grimlin than to re-use a componet that is cheap and easy to replace.
I wish you luck, but I think you will be re-doing this beast sooner than later.

Update ---
All bearings checked ok -- no need to replace.
Oil pump gaps all checked ok -- decided to replace with new. Fresh oil change and filter new oil pump and all is good.
60 psi at start up 50 psi hot -- idle pressure is good at 30+ psi
