number plate restoration

The number plate on my firewall has an overspray of old primer from years ago. Any way to have this redone? I washed it off with paint thinner but it still looks bad
against the new paint. Thanks Bob
 
thats what I wanted on mine, I cleaned it up an replaced it on the newley painted car. I just lightly hit it with a scotchbright pad
 
guys i see you can buy new blanks from moss,they look authentic but i wouldnt know were you can get the correct number/letter stamps. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Just put a new one directly over the old one can't read em anyway. On the otherhand, I believe some place within the concourse group a new plate can be properly stamped and requires proof of ownership to get it done.Tricky business so they might have stopped this I don't know.---Fwiw---Keoke
 
I've been wracking my brain (OK, a small job) trying to remember the place in Pennsylvania that stamps the repro plates, just like original. They recently did an Engine Number plate for one of my BN2s, and a few years ago they did a Car No. plate for a Bugeye of mine. They require some proof of ownership of the car in question.

Someone will remember their name. Very sorry to post without the full answer -- I really don't want to encourage that sort of thing. Tell you what, call one of the concours committee members (who has a good memory) and I'm sure you'll get the info you need:

He did my MGA data plates, though I did have to provide the old ones as proof. I am also going to have him do my Healey data plates. Just a thought - would it be a good idea or an acceptable one to put the names etc. of such people who do specialized work, as above, in the knowledge base?
