No weather for a drive in the Healey

…at least not here in the Northeast. This weather reminds me of a great story that appeared in the NY Times magazine section well over 25 years ago about a father and son driving their Healey safely home through a raging snow storm. I’ve not been able to find the piece anywhere on the Internet, but would love to read it again.

I’m also reminded of a snowy night back in the late 60s when I was heading home late at night after a party. The snow was so deep that my Bugeye Sprite with its nearly bald tires was unable to make it up a slight incline. So I put it in 1st gear, and with the rear wheels spinning pushed the car a few hundred yards until she got traction, then quickly jumped in and away I went! Slip-sliding all the way home.

One (very minor) good thing is that I don't have to shovel in front of the side of the garage where the Healey resides...

We're not getting snow anywhere near what you guys are, but we are getting plenty of really cold temps with really big winds here in the midwest. I'm supposed to deliver my AH BN7 on the 21st to a museum for display purposes for awhile. I sure hope the weather gets better.

What's the temps where you are?

I managed a short ride through the neighborhood last Friday, immediately after getting my new wheels on, and barely minutes before it started snowing.

After getting eleven inches (11") of snow in the past day, it looks like it will be a while before I can roadtest the newly installed gearbox...

I once tried the pushing my car while the wheels were spinning in the snow, and ran over my foot; damned short wheelbase MGB; fortunately, at eighteen (18) I was still immortal

I really feel for all of you east of the Mississippi. I dropped the motor back in my 100-6 vintage racer last weekend in a t-shirt. We have had the usual rain here in the NW, but I was really dreaming of playing in the snow with the rest of you.

There is between 2 and 3 feet on the ground here in Northern Va. Today I followed an MG Miget with two big holes in the back sides of the top for about 5 miles. The salt was very thick on the road and its snowing again now and 27 degrees. Must have been a fun ride.

Any ride in a British car is fun. Almost.
