nice factory 100 M project on ebay....

Sounds like too much is mising and car has been cut up a bit.
It is going to cost someone a LOT of $$$$ to get this one right.

Bruce

pretty funny that he says he is not going to reveal the cars' numbers (except to the buyer) and then shows a picture of the Heritage Certificate with all the numbers showing! (doh...) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

BTW, I emailed him about that so he should remove that picture or there will be ten 100M's just like it in the near future.

I saved the certificate just in case.

Strange that there is an engine but not the M carbs.

Bruce

Never noticed the wire wheels. Yes it is way too much for what you are getting and not getting.

Bruce

Whats up with the bid history on this car? Why would someone jump from $4400. to $14000. somethings not looking right..is that just part of a wire wheel holding a disc wheel in place??

The wheels look truly weird. Its hard to imagine why anyone might swap steel for wire ones even if converting to a V8 unless they also messed around with the front suspension in a major way. It may be a real mess.

I suppose that the bid might have jumped from 4K to 14K IF the seller had placed a 14K reserve on it (how unreal is THAT!?) and then some foolhardy soul watched the bids build up to the 4K level and then put in an escalator bid with a 14K+ maximum. That would then not just beat the existing bid by whatever the minimum incfrement would be but also meet the reserve placed on the item. Or so it would seem to me....

But its a silly bid for something that looks like much more trouble than its worth IMHO.....

Looks like he could be the lucky winner! Or maybe the loser.
Then again in ten years I may wish I had bought it. I doubt it though. I would never have bid that on that car without taking a goood hard look in person. I'am thinking it could make a good car but to much $$$$$$ to pay for starters.

Its now up to $14200 with two bidders at 14+, but the bidding looks a little odd to me... one of the bidders has bought Porsche stuff so seems a car person, the other seems to have bought a lot of more feminine stuff and looks a little suspicious.... FWIW

Time for me to speak up. I am the jerk that has the M on eBay. I have been a lurker on this forum for about a year and a low level participant on the Healey list for a long time. I bought my first Healey in 1959. I’ll address a couple of points.

First, posting the Heritage certificate was a huge stupid mistake. I had a blacked out copy on my computer and picked the wrong one. By the time someone pointed it out, there were bids and eBay wouldn’t let me remove it. Several more have since pointed it out. Some with more tact than others.

I agree it will take someone a LOT of $$$$ to get it right. But it is a Factory M.

There is more (internal sheetmetal) missing than the listing shows. 2 salvaged body sections with most of the missing sheetmetal are included.

The carbs are not M because the engine that is with it is not from an M.

In the 10 years I have had the car I never looked close at the wheels considering them cobbled up junk suitable for rolling it around on. Now that I have looked closer they are very well done with discs nicely welded on knock-off hubs and those short spokes are actually set into the discs. They’re still ugly.

The front suspension hasn’t been touched.

Bid history: I set the reserve at a figure I could live with. I really don’t want to get rid of it but I have lost some storage and need to get rid of something. If someone wants to pay that, we’ll both be happy. I’ve got another bigger car on eBay that I would rather sell.

It was taken to reserve by a dealer/restorer. We have since traded a lot of e-mails and pictures. The current high bidder hasn’t contacted me. I have had a lot of international contacts. If I had to guess, it will go overseas on a last minute bid.

I hope this doesn’t offend anybody. I’ve seen lots of these kinds of discussions – especially on the Jag lists, and I’ve never seen a seller comment. So I figured… what the H***.

I agree, girls can have Healeys too.

Of course they can. But jumping from infrequent purcahses of nickle and dime girly stuff to a $14K Healey makes careful consideration of the bidder only sensible. Identify theft is not unknown... Caveat vendor applies too.....

Hi Marv, welcome aboard!

As an infrequent Ebay buyer, I'm glad you spoke up about your wares.

My wife & I were in Mesa last March (actually wearing my Sedona denim shirt today) when she graduated from ther Aizona School of Health & Sciences. Sure rather be there today (like 5 degrees in Toledo right now).

Hope to see you around here more often.

Being an M it will have considerable value when completed.
Hope we didn't beat ya up to bad, at least it wasn't black with pink coves. There I go again making someone else mad,
Just for the record I don't think your a jerk and I approach most cars on ebay with caution and would take a look in person if possible! Sorry if I offended you. Bob

Nobody said anything offensive. Anyway I have been growing this skin for almost 70 years and it's really thick. It's certainly a good idea to find out all you can before a buy but I've sold big ticket items to bidders at the last minute who had never contacted me.

The guy that took it to reserve has retracted his bid. Now it looks like the current bidder took it from $4K+ to $14K in one bid.

Welcome to the forum. I hope we didn't cause you any offense and hope we didn't seem to think you're a "jerk".

An original factory "M" would be worth more than others, but this looks like a fairly heroic effort would be involved....

Good luck with it, hope your bidder isn't a deadbeat.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif
