Time for me to speak up. I am the jerk that has the M on eBay. I have been a lurker on this forum for about a year and a low level participant on the Healey list for a long time. I bought my first Healey in 1959. I’ll address a couple of points.
First, posting the Heritage certificate was a huge stupid mistake. I had a blacked out copy on my computer and picked the wrong one. By the time someone pointed it out, there were bids and eBay wouldn’t let me remove it. Several more have since pointed it out. Some with more tact than others.
I agree it will take someone a LOT of $$$$ to get it right. But it is a Factory M.
There is more (internal sheetmetal) missing than the listing shows. 2 salvaged body sections with most of the missing sheetmetal are included.
The carbs are not M because the engine that is with it is not from an M.
In the 10 years I have had the car I never looked close at the wheels considering them cobbled up junk suitable for rolling it around on. Now that I have looked closer they are very well done with discs nicely welded on knock-off hubs and those short spokes are actually set into the discs. They’re still ugly.
The front suspension hasn’t been touched.
Bid history: I set the reserve at a figure I could live with. I really don’t want to get rid of it but I have lost some storage and need to get rid of something. If someone wants to pay that, we’ll both be happy. I’ve got another bigger car on eBay that I would rather sell.
It was taken to reserve by a dealer/restorer. We have since traded a lot of e-mails and pictures. The current high bidder hasn’t contacted me. I have had a lot of international contacts. If I had to guess, it will go overseas on a last minute bid.
I hope this doesn’t offend anybody. I’ve seen lots of these kinds of discussions – especially on the Jag lists, and I’ve never seen a seller comment. So I figured… what the H***.
I agree, girls can have Healeys too.
