New Ratchet Wrench

My cousin sent me a new ratchet wrench. It works like a normal one and if you twist the handle the head ratchets. This is great for an area that you can get the wrench on the bolt but can't move the handle; just twist the handle and the head turns. Proto makes it. I got the 3/8 drive but there is 1/4 and 1/2 too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

This sounds interesting. I've not seen anything like that here in the UK.

Something else to ask my daughter to send me.... just to prove to her that I really DON'T already have every toold ever made. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

We used to use wrenches that looked like a ratchet handle but were actually 90 degree drives. You could put a regular ratchet in the end of the handle to turn it. At the time we used them to access spark plugs in Corvettes.

Does this sound like what you have, or is the new one different?

Ack! Another tool I must own!

Are we talking about flex-head ratchets or right angle drive? I only see flex-heads on Proto’s website.

This is getting painful. We were sitting in Del Taco at lunch yesterday when the Snap-On truck pulled into the tire place next door. Those were the most expensive chicken tacos I’ve ever eaten.

Just bought the 3/8 drive at Home Depot. It is made by Stanley under the Husky label. Quick test and it works just fine!!!

Yesw, there is plenty of tourck. I just used it to get to bell housing bolts on an Isuzu. I am going to order the 1/4 drive next pay day. This is a great tool for under the car in tight places. It is not a 90 degree tool but a real wratch that also works with the handle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

My favorite 3/8 ratchet is a craftsman with a swivel head like in the picture, but the end of the handle is bent for easier handling.

Thanks John!

So it was under News and Media announcements rather than the products section.

No. they're for sale. several companies are offering them now. Snap-On included. The rep tried to sell me one. I told him it needed a 1/4" drive square hole in the base of the handle (for quick action) before I'd buy one at his price

Mine cost about $25 and is oneof the best tool buys in a long time. They are on the market through a Proto Dealer or I guess through Home Depot. I have to rate it above the tools I got when I invaded Harbor Freight. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I used to have a screwdriver made like that. Wish I still had it. It was a necessity when changing speakers in certain GM cars where the screw holding the speaker cover was 1 inch from the windshield and facing it too... I know car stereo installers that would have the windshield removed to replace those speakers - expensive job to replace 2 $40 speakers.

I have found out that the wrench comes in 1/4 inch drive, too. One is on it's way. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I found the 3/8" Stanley version (black and yellow handle) at Wal-Mart for just under $25.

It works great for some of those tight locations.

I haven't seeen the 1/4" version anywhere. LLAngus - where are did you order yours from?

Just got off the phone with The Stanley Works customer service, she said manufacturing location varies by part number, with different tools within all their brands, Stanley, Proto, Blackhawk, etc made in different places.

The 1/4" and 3/8" Rotator Ratchets are made in Taiwan.
