Owned a 67 MGB gt since 1976. Still a daily driver. Driven well over 200k miles in all weathers. Used it to haul kids, animal feed, hay, gravel, firewood, toilets, lumber. Fence posts. Comutted to a major metro area for several years. Never ever let me down. Rebuilt the engine twice.
Hit a deer one night, and its antlers broke off in the aluminium hood and it flipped over the car, unhurt minus antlers.

Owned a 59 TR3 for 2 years. Sadly not nearly as reliable as the MGB, although it had been “restored” by p.o. Still great fun to drive when it works.

thanks for checking in JP. Still have the GT. Actually its about 235k mikes now.
Too good to sell, since its been in the family all this time and now my grandson is learning to drive.
After hitting the deer, had it repainted the original primrose yellow. Redid the interior. Its been so reliable,
i had only one turn signal bulb burn out in 45 years.
Bought a truck, so no more manure hauling!

That is an impressive mileage on any car let alone a 50+ year old car. They don't build them like they use to. Also no computers to go wrong.
The TR3s are a bit older and can be less reliable but I did manage nearly 100,000 in mine in the UK back in the 1960s when it was newer. Only 15 years old at the time but a rust bucket. Left me by the road side twice. Broken half shaft. Much later pinion gear with no teeth.

Hi David, thanks for the welcome.
although i swopped the points for a Mallory electronic ignition 20 yrs ago, the MGB just keeps running without a fault.
Not so the tr3a as its eaten three podtronic ignition systems, so its back to points. luckily not a spot of rust anywhere.
Spent enough time under it to know.
Worth every bit of mechanical issues when its running well, as you found out over your ownership.
Over 100k on English roads is a verifable feat.
I have to keep reminding myself its a 60+ year old car,
as the previous owner did a fantastic overall job of bringing the car to a fine state of refurbishment.
 
Sadly my British TR3 is long gone. It was in need of a frame off restoration in the 1970. No internet then to get help or parts. The engine was great but the body was a disaster. Still ran great but leaked like a sieve and the "A" pillars were only held on by the top and the doors.
At that time the MOT test was a matter of knowing the right test station to get it passed.

The TR3A that I now own was a failed restoration project that I took over in 2015. It had been started in 1989 or there about. I do prefer mechanical points as I have heard horror stories about them just stopping working with no warning.
Helped a guy get his TR4 going and he was on his second set with no success. Put my spare distributer with points and it fired right up.

Thanks David. Ive had three sets of podtronics fail without warning. To be fair the folks at that company tried to help diagnose why that could be happening, but no conclusions . So i slapped in a set of used points and been driving without igntion issues.
