Hi all, Just a quick hello. I am an XK140 owner/restorer and have just found this Forum. Look forward to gleaning new info from these pages. Already found some info on paint stripping, Cutlas, how was your/anyones experience with Eco-Clean outside of Atlanta. I am thinking of dipping my body and frame as a unit. I don't really want to remove the body from the frame as this creates all sorts of problems I've read. Still casting about and have not decided on any one process yet. I am still removing parts in prep for the eventual stripping/dipping/sand/bead blasting? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif
 
Can't tell you about the Atlanta company but I can say that some folks here in southern Ohio dip every Sunbeam body they do. Costs about $1500 to do a tub, doors, trunk lid and hood. On thing to be aware of it that any alloy, body lead, brass, etc will also be removed by the process.
 
Thats no good. Large portions of the car were leaded and there are a number of Brass Nuts on the car. It looks like I am leaning toward the manual blasting route and not the dipping route.
 
There is a very new process used for stripping paint that is very good and avoids some of the undesired effects of sandblasting. The process uses (believe it or not) baking soda as an abrasive. I have heard nothing but kudos from a body shop that uses the process. I would have done it with an Austin Healey that I am restoring but the shop just recently got the special equipment required to support the process. Check it out and see if there are any outlets for the service in your area. If you need more information concerning the process, give me a reply. It is my opinion that dipping the entire body in a vat is usually an overkill for restoration requirements. Best regards, Jack
