What a way to start a season! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif Another "red-white-checker finish!!! Why do they even bother running 500 miles when they end the races with a three-lap shootout. This happened seven times last season /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif. You would think the fans would tire of watching the whole race and just tune in to the final three laps!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

That was the best race finish I've ever seen.

It was pretty wild!! What a waste of machinery though! That's a lot of miles of racing to sit through for a final 10 minutes of excitement!

I'm not a big NASCAR fan - but I watched most of this one. They're making my point now - didn't Mark get robbed? Wouldn't they normally throw a caution as soon as cars start piling up? Wonder who's decision it was to delay it? Seems that safety wasn't the first consideration - which I've always admired NASCAR for in the past.

I think NASCAR has always been a follower rather than a leader/innovator when it came to safety considerations. SCCA and FIA have a better record!

Should have seen the truck race. .0034 between 1st and 3rd (yea I said 3rd). THAT was a good race. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

It just hit me a minute ago, if you hate NASCAR sooooooooo much, why do you watch it? Closet fan maybe? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

I missed it too. Did anybody turn left? hehehehehe

I love Sunday Nascar ....a great excuse to nap on the couch and wake up for the good parts. I doze and half listen for the announcer to get excited, wake up watch the replays of the wrecks, go back to sleep, wake up for the last few laps...head back out to the garage to finish up on the MG. It really makes for a relaxing and totally wasted Sunday afternoon. I Love IT!

for TV I think its a great "sport" ,

lots of action , paint scrapping at 180 MPH , crashes and normally everyone walks away ,

boring to me is CART, Indy car etc open wheel stuff ,
no paint scrapping , more dangerous for the driver too,

but these are TV sports , I doubt I would go to those races unless I had seats in a box , full pit passes etc,

I would pay to go to vintage racing , and maybe even "modern" sports car racing

I liked the Busch Clash years ago , I think it was 20 lap races , the second half was restarted with the field reversed , fastest cars in the back ,

Now the Bush Clash is just a 70 lap race with a pit stop after 20 laps /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I fell asleep, too. I think it's the droning sound of the engines.

I "watch" it (usually on in the background while I work on one of my cars or some other weekend project!) because I am a racing JUNKIE!! I will watch lawnmower races if that is all that is on. I like RACING...period!!! Some is better than others, but a bad race is still better than NO race!! I would prefer to be at the track (any track) rather than watching races on TV, but as a poor substitute it works!! Don't get me wrong, there have been some memorable NASCAR races, it is just that (as with most stuff!)as it gets more commercialized and caters to the "fans" more and more, it seems the racing itself suffers! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif
PS: I will be at Sebring this year if any other BCF members are there, I hope we have a chance to meet and share a brew! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

I've been a fan for years and thought it was exciting but even more so this time becuase of this. I think I remember the details of what the announcer said.

Toyota is now a part of Nascar and the first time a foreign manufacturer has been involved in Nascar since 1963. The last car was driven by Smoky somthing or other and was driving an MG.

Who'd a thunk it. They continuted to talk about it for some time & then finished it by asking the viewers if anyone had a picture of him & that MG.

That would be cool to see. Anyone familiar with this and might know of a picutre of such a car?

Nevermind. I just noticed the other thread on the Daytona 500.

We actually have a Daytona 500 party every year. We do it as a part of our Winter ~EMRA~ social stuff.

Many of us enjoy seeing the NASCAR guys race at The Glen (since we race there too and can say stuff like, "Look! He crashed at the same place that I crashed!).

This year I was a little late for the start, because we had our FIRST Robotics Team robo-unvieling the same day....so I missed the first 30 minutes or so.

Once the 500 is on, we race slot cars (and we turn the sound off on the race, so we can talk). This year, we also watched EMRA race videos (from my in-car camera) on a regular TV (while we watched the Daytona on a big screen projector).

I'm not a dedicated NASCAR fan, but it's OK. I *am* jealous of the way they have marketed their particular form of motorsports. They're *much* better at it than the sports car crowd.

By the way, when we saw that close finish at the end, I looked over at my pal Pete and we both smiled and said, "Hey...Just like us!"
At one of our ~Spridget Battles~ this year, (at Summit Point) he beat me on the last lap (after 20 laps) by 0.02 seconds.

Overall, I had a good time watching this years NASCAR Daytona 500 (but having three Fosters and some excellent ham chili didn't hurt either).

NAPCAR... Just now got it. It wasn't a typo.

It merits a chuckle.

I think the Nascar FOX announcers are great ,
the NBC announcers later in the year put me to sleep.....
