Mysterious poor running problem

Hey all,
More problems with my TR6. Now the issue seems to be that the car is not getting enough fuel. Here is what I have done so far:
Rebuilt engine (10:1 c/r, cam, header, big valves, blah blah)
Triple Webers (not rebuilt yet, but seem to work fine)
Carter electric fuel pump mounted in trunk, bought from Top End Performance since they recommend it for the low pressure that Webers like
Crane Electronic ignition, seems to be working fine as well
Here's the problem:
Before I installed the pump and ignition I was having a bad running issue that felt like vapor lock, as though the car was not getting enough fuel. I thought it was a hot running problem, but then it got worse and soon the car was running poorly even when cold.
Took it off the road and installed the electronic ignition. Car actually ran great (very quick) for a morning, but then when it got hot it started running like crap again. Installed electric pump, problem still persisted.
The car runs ok at idle, but when you drive it, it feels like its missing or not getting enough fuel.
I have a clear fuel filter in the trunk between the tank and the pump and the filter is not filling up with fuel, its only trickling into the filter so its about 1/3 full of fuel.
It has new rotor, cap, wires, plugs and the compression is 150 lbs on all cylinders.
Could this be a carb problem? Could they simply need a rebuild?
Any suggestions before I drive it off a cliff?
Zach

Zach,

You may have unwittingly diagnosed your own problem. If the filter is before the pump, you have an issue in the tank or it's outlet. If that filter is after the pump, you are obviously not getting enough fuel to keep it running under a load.

Did you check the fuel pressure? How about taking a peek in that tank to see of there is anything on the bottom?

Get a gauge that will read fuel pressure (most vacuum test gauges will do this) and tee it into the fuel supply at the carbs. Check it when you have a problem.

My guess would be electrical, but this simple test will eliminate fuel delivery as a suspect.

Hi Zach, Your problem sounds like what i just went thru {see 63 Tr4 help needed thread below} I replaced the coil and everything is fine. Good Luck. Steve
