My New Shop

I finally got my new shop. Several months ago, wife and I moved to a single level house for her on a large lot so I could build a decent shop for me. I can finally get on with my projects. The first is restoring my Gemini, a mid fifties sports racer. Anyway here are some pics.

Looks fabulous! Congratulations.

I'm envious :frown:

sigh.

Nice looking shop, well lit, but I did not see the beer fridge?
What is the deal with the roll bar on your racing car?
Cheers,
D.

A legitimate and important question!

If Smokey ever worked on that car, it is a hidden gas tank. One time he made the filler neck around 11' long.

The roll bar isn't quite as strange as it looks in the picture. It was quite a chore getting one installed on the car because of how the car was built, besides poorly. Also installed was a fair amount of chassis stiffening, I'll get some additional pictures posted later.

Alas, no refer for beer in the shop, there is one in the other garage though. It is really not as inconvenient as one would think. I merely grab another as I leave the house after getting rid of the previous one (I'm over 60). However after I get a few trees planted in my yard, I will probably want the beer a bit closer.

And all th' time wasted doin' so.

Mebbe ya should add a head ~and~ a 'fridge?

10-4. We where just worried about your safety walking to and from the house in fowl weather.
Cheers,

fowl weather...is that when masses of birds migrate?? :jester:

BTW, that shop is really nice!

Mark,

Nice garage - but you need about 4 more cars
in there to take up all of that empty space.

It looks great, with or without the fridge.

It looks like you have heat - what did you use? I had to tap off the house heating system (oil-hot water) but the furnace is just on the other side of a common wall. I'd like to add an additional unit but would like to avoid all the plumbing.

Nice car, too!

Try a window mount heater/AC unit. Good for all seasons.

The shop is pretty well insulated, R21 walls R38 ceiling. In the top picture you can see the natural gas meter for the house, all I had to do was tee in and dig a trench over to the shop. The heater is a Modine Hot Dawg. At 75K btu it is probable a bit of overkill. Heater placement is not critical from what I can tell, it was most space efficient for me to put it in the corner. I will add some ceiling fans before next winter. The heater was very easy to install and can vent through the sidewall, just check on eve clearance to avoid condensation problems.

I have enough cars to fill it. The TR4 is in the attached garage, there is 77 Lancia Beta under a cover outside, a 39 Ford Standard off site and a 41 B John Deere at a friends. I am sure the shop will "shrink" when I start restoring the Ford late this year.

I will need to move things around to paint the floor as soon as the weather becomes consistently warm. The paint guys tell me that heating the shop is not enough, it needs to be warm outside as well. With the expense of the paint, I did not want to risk a mistake.

Sigh....that is really, really nice. I envy you too!!

I want to know what kind of race car that is, maybe a Ginetta ? Cool shop by the way.

in his first post he mentions Gemini-a mid-50's racer.
