My blinkers don't work right

Well the right blinker works but it stays on and only shuts off when you turn the steering wheel to the right. I cannot shut it off with the blinker switch. I cannot turn on my left blinker at all. what could be the problem /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif. First one that come to mind is the blinker switch. Any guesses........Chris

Hello Chris, You don't say what car it is?, and what happened prior to this fault? My first guess is the wiring is incorrectly connected, although the steering wheel bit is strange.

Sorry guess this will probably help 88 Vanden Plas. The car sat for about 6 months in the driveway. I just decided to fire it up a few weeks ago and start driving it again. I cannot see that the wiring being incorrectly connect as they worked prior to it sitting in my driveway for a few months........Chris

I agree with your guess. Sounds like something happened to the blinker switch. Since it is an 88, there might be a logic unit along with the switch.

Chris,
Actually, EVERYTHING about these cars is logical -- it just isn't your logic!! (or any one else that owns them)
These XJ40s are notorious for having bad solder joints. It will happen all over the car and the blinker logic board is a prime example. If you are having problems after the car sat for 6 months and none of this was a problem previously, then get a solder iron and simply re-flow the solder on the logic board and any other place there are solder joints you think may be affecting it. Usually, this will take care of the problem. You will find the same problem with your clock and your bulb modules.
Remember that this car is nearly 20 years old now. In 8 years you can start running classic/antique plates on it in most States and like any car of this age, stuff is going to wear thin on it.

Cheers
